It is undeniable that Trese star Liza Soberano has been a celebrity that many people look up to. Aside from her beauty, her work very much speaks for itself — she has acted in countless successful movies and series, and has endorsements which made her a household name.

Hence many were looking forward with anticipation when they learned that she’s going to be a voice actress for the Netflix animated series titled Trese.

Trese is about a modern day babaylan who strives to solve the mysteries that are related to the supernatural. Set in Metro Manila, the adventures of this empowered detective is adapted by Netflix as an animated series, from a graphic novel by Budjette Tan and artist Kajo Baldisimo.

Liza Soberano was chosen to bring Alexandra Trese to life in the anticipated Netflix Original Anime that is set to release on June 11.

In her interview with Rappler, Liza explains that she had to overcome her hesitance for taking on such a big role. “When it was first offered to me, I was very excited because who wouldn’t want to be on a Netflix original, right? It’s also showcasing Filipino culture, Filipino mythological creatures. I knew that it would be our stepping stone into introducing Filipino culture worldwide and I wanted to be part of that,” she said.

“But I was also very hesitant and scared because voice acting is something that’s so new to me and I didn’t want to fail anyone because I know just how much hard work and passion was put into the project.”

Liza put all her effort in order to deliver as Trese, giving her character much thought and consideration. In her interview with Manila Standard Entertainment, Liza divulges: ““I watched a lot of superhero films even if Trese is not exactly a superhero. I watched Batman. I kind of struggled at first because even if I’m angry I’m still mahinhin. I had to sound authoritative.”

She also shared some of her preparations for her role in her Rappler interview. ““I did my own research on YouTube about voice acting, voice acting techniques, vocal warmups, everything. I also asked our producer for training and a workshop with my voice coach because I was really nervous about dubbing.”

Liza deems the role as a dream come true, and she’s excited for everyone to see it. In a virtual presscon, she stated: “I really hope that Filipinos would love it because this is like paying tribute to anyone here in the Philippines. It’s the first Netflix anime original that is based on a Philippine graphic novel and it’s something that everybody should be proud of. I hope that once the Filipinos here in the Philippines start loving it, I hope Filipinos abroad start loving it and hopefully they can share it with their friends. That way they get introduced to not only Filipino people but even Americans or whatever race they may be.”
