The recently concluded 5th Edition of The Eddys Awards for Movies organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) was very successful in gathering and honoring movie actors creatives, and scribes at the Metropolitan Theater (MET) last November 27.

“Lahat po kayong nominado sa akin ay panalo na,” said Eugene Asis, current SPEEd president. Critically-acclaimed ‘On the Job: Missing 8’, which has received a nomination in the 50th Emmy Awards, took home the most accolades.

The oeuvre, produced by Reality Entertainment and Globe Studios bagged the top award which is Best Film, and Erik Matti won as Best Director. Here are the other categories the film was victorious in: Best Supporting Actress (Lotlot de Leon), Best Cinematography (Neil Bion), Best Musical Score (Erwin Romulo; tied with 2 other films), Best Visual Effects (Mothership), and Best Editing (Jay Halili).

Most of the film’s awardees are not present so representatives from the producers’ side claimed the trophies.

Christian Bables won as Best Actor for Big Night, while Charo Santos-Concio bagged the Best Actress award for ‘Kun Maupay Man It Panahon’.

Mon Confiado won as Best Supporting Actor for ‘Arisaka’. Viva Entertainment, who has religiously churned out new movies at least once a week since Vivamax’s (its streaming app counterpart) inception, won as the Producer of the Year. Rein Entertainment Philippines became the Producer Circle Awardee.

Another important segment of the awarding is “Icons”, where seasoned film artists were honored. This year’s batch includes Helen Gamboa, Divina Valencia, Elizabeth Oropesa, Sharon Cuneta, Alma Moreno, TVJ (Tito, Vic and Joey), Phillip Salvador, and Roi Vinzon. Cherie Gil and Susan Roces were the posthumous honorees.

Young divas Zephanie and Jona belted out OPM songs in their respected intermission numbers while Regine Tolentino and her dance company set the stage on fire with her daring dance routine. There was also a theatrical opening number showcasing what being a movie fan is about, which was more of a movement piece rather than a dance.

The awarding ceremony was hosted by non other than the “King of Talk” Boy Abunda and the show was directed by Ice Seguerra, who also spearheaded the production company handling the Eddys 2022, which is Fire and Ice Media and Productions, Inc.
