Elon Musk is not part of the World Economic Forum meeting which took place in the Swiss town of Davos last January 16 to 20. He tweeted as early as December 30 last year regarding the reason: “My reason for declining that Davos invitation was not because I thought they were engaged in diabolical scheming, but because it sounded boring af lol.”

However, the forum’s spokesperson was quick to refute this and said that Musk was not invited at all, the 2015 being his last. Musk not being present does not mean that the attendees did not talk about him. “The fact is that the United States has attracted the most extraordinary entrepreneurial talent in the world and I’m very proud to live in a country where that’s true,” said Ian Bremmer, Eurasia Group’s president and founder.

He then went on to name technopreneurs who weren’t born on the American soil such as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. He claimed that the problem with the two and others like them worth billions is that they have “literally no interest or conception in their role as stewards for civil society and American democracy.

One may recall that an acerbic tweet of Musk last January 19 a bit after midnight made the headlines. He called the World Economic Forum an “unelected world government that the people asked for and don’t want.”

On January 17, Musk made fun of the World Econonomic Forum founder Klaus Schwab’s appeal for participants to “master the future” when it comes to countering global setbacks. “Are they trying to be boss of Earth,” he asked sarcastically.

The influential tech mogul seemed to throw shade at strongholds of power disallowing queries, as he tweeted last January 19: “To be clear, I’m not someone who thinks lots of government agencies should be abolished (maybe a few), but we should always question our institutions, as this strengthens the bedrock of democracy.” Prior to this, he posted a poll on Twitter entitled “The World Economic Forum should control the world”. As of writing, it has 2.42 million responses, with 86% overwhelmingly voting “No”.

Some of the world’s wealthiest leaders regularly attend the said gathering. A number of online commentators have claimed that the event involves a group of elites manipulating global events for their own gain. The conspiracy theory once existing just in the bowels of the internet has now hit the mainstream.

The event was host to hundreds of public sessions tackling global problems like climate change as well as economic collapse.

The theme of the meeting in 2020 was called ‘The Great Reset‘, which envisioned how changes can be implemented to build a more sustainable future. This theme has been referenced by many well-known names including Fox News’ Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones, who was convicted for spreading the misinformation that the Sandy Hook incident never occurred. They largely view the plan as just a conspiracy to consolidate world power and exercise control over society.

Musk is not the only famous person who did not mince words criticizing the World Economic Forum. Twitter Files journalist Michael Shellenberger, tweeted on the same day that the World Economic Forum began, regarding the organization deleting what they allegedly said regarding ‘The Great Reset, “eating insects instead of meat”, and being happy despite owning nothing. Shellenberger also shared a screenshot that he claims is from their official website, using The Wayback Machine, and the title of the article in the screenshot is “Welcome to 2030. I own nothing, have no privacy, and life has never been better.”
